Why do I get headaches after someone around me smokes a cigarette?
Category: Headaches

Whenever someone smokes, I get headaches and sometimes difficulty breathing. The pain has gotten worse over the last six months. Could anyone explain? ( I do not smoke)
I can’t really avoid it. Whenever my dad takes me out, he always smokes. At least two before arriving at the destination. I have Air Conditioning on, but no help.
He does roll down his window, have the AC on and I even have to roll my window down it’s that bad. I actually have two medicines, Cyproheptadine and something like Zyrtec.

This is what happens to everybody when they first start smoking, and then they pass this stage and get addicted.
I would suggest do not go near them when they smoke.
This has also happened to me, but dont worry, it will go away as long as you stay away.

My dad has smoked my entire life. Im 15 and I still haven’t gotten used to it. I also get bad headaches around smoke. Ask him to open the window or if he could smoke when he’s not around you.

This effect is due to the Allergy to ‘Passive Smoking’.
The harmful contents emmitted by the smoke of cigarrette may cause the surrounding people to cause hedache, dizziness, suffocation to breath or in the worst case may even may result into cancer incase of subjected to excessive passive smoking.
Either u can ask that person to avoid smoking in a public areas or u can better move away from the area where a person is smoking!

You could have asthma or an allergic reaction to an ingredient found in cigarettes. My mom smokes and I have the same symptoms.

It’s all psychological. Just don’t think about it and you’ll be fine.

Sounds like you’re allergic to smoke and quite possibly asthmatic as well. So it’s giving you a sinus headache from allergic inflammation and making your airways constrict. I’d definitely mention this to a doctor. If this is triggering asthma, your father must *not* smoke when you are present.
