What is your opinion about the stem cell research? Do you support abortion?

Category: Stem cell research

I am having a debate and I would like to know what the other people think about this situation.
Do you think that the stem cell research is pointless or should it continue? Do you believe that any of this will actually work? What are your opinions? I would also like to know if you support abortion. Do you think that there is a connection between abortion and the stem cell research?

It should continue and be expanded, and no I see no connection between the two. Do you have any idea how many frozen cells as well as embryos are destroyed daily?

  2. diskman01 Says:

I don’t have an opinion on stem cell research, but on abortion, Everyone has the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Did you catch that, the right to life. You can’t get any clearer then that. An unborn child is still a child. You have a child growing inside of you, it’s feeding off of your nutrients that you take in, the child is alive. It is murder, you are depriving that child of a basic right to life(not saying you in perticular, but anyone who has an abortion) Mothers say it’s their body, they have a right to choose, what about the baby’s right to chose, It’s the baby’s body that is depending on you that is being destroyed. In a sense, you could say I’m pro choice, I’m pro the baby having a choice to live.

First, you need to clarify what you mean by stem cell research. There is adult stem cells which uses stem cells from the bone marrow, blood, skin, cord blood and a couple others that most people dont have a problem with. In fact, the only people I have met who have a problem with that either didnt understand the difference or are against western medicine as a whole.

Embryonic stem cell research is where the debate is. I support it. First, lets get clear on what it uses. Embryonic stem cell research is done using discarded embryos that are left over from InVitro Ferilization or IVF. WHen a woman is going through IVF, several eggs are fertalized and a few are inserted at a time. Most women have embryos that are left over after they get preg. They can cont to be stored which many women dont do because of the expense. They can be donated to other women going through the proceedure, which most women dont do because they dont like the idea of someone else having their biological child. The majority of the embryos are destroyed and thrown out in the biowaste. Embryonic stem cell research or any other kind of embryonic research happens on these embryos that are headed for the biowaste.

Some people consider this abortion because they believe life begins at fertalization. Most scientists believe life begins at implantation (when the embryo implants into the endometrial wall in the uterus) while others believe it is when the heart starts beating. Legally a fetus is not a human until it has take a breath of air outside the womb.

I do agree personally that life begins at fertalization. However, I feel that gaining scientific knowledge is better than just throwing them in the biowaste. I consider it a slap in the face that people are allowing these embryos that no one wanted to just be thrown away. I think that using them for research makes their small lives mean something.

As far as abortion in and of itself… I dont like it, but I wont tell a woman she cant have one. I used to be pro life all the way, lets make abortion illegal. And then I had a pregnancy scare during my remission from cancer. I relapsed 4 months later. I was not preg, but I would have been 5 months preg at the time of the diagnosis. My cancer is leukemia. A leukemia patient’s body simply will not support a pregnancy if they even lived that long, and a fetus would not survive the harsh treatment for leukemia. I realized then and there that I would have had an abortion if I were preg when diagnosed.

I do NOT support using abortion as birth control. I do NOT support creating life for the specific purpose of destroying it. But I DO support all forms of stem cell research.

The question everyone needs to ask themselves, is would you use any knowledge or treatments that came from embryonic research. Some people say no. They are also flat out liers. Even before stem cells, embryos and aborted fetuses have been studied and researched. How do you think we know what we know today about fetal development, how do you think we learned how to do IVF? How did we learn about birth defects and the effects of medications on the fetus? How do you think we learned how to do all these things? Do any of the people against embryonic stem cell research refuse to learn about fetal development?

I think abortion is all right. Abortion is ONLY all right in the case of the child may not live very long and will suffer throughout it’s short life, the woman is going to die due to complications of delivery [the child that may be born will also be motherless], or in the case of rape.
Many people think that if you are raped and have conceived that putting the child up for adoption is okay, but the reality is that how can a woman who has been been used and discarded like an old shirt have that child, it was no fault of hers, so then the choice should be available if she decides to keep the child or not. Plus if the child is put into adoption does it really have hat high of a chance of even getting adopted? Aren’t adoption percentages like 25%? So if that child has to live like an orphan throughout its life, what kind of life is that?
In my faith we believe that the soul enters the body shortly after birth, so abortion to me is okay.
    -That’s my take on abortion

  5. Ingrid Says:

I support both and no there is no connection between the two.

  6. tkahrs12122 Says:

research must continue if we are to improve the health of people. I approve of a woman’s choice to decide what is best for her.

  7. roadhazzards Says:

I don’t like abortion BUT since I am male it’s something of a moot point for me, ultimately it a decision best left to the woman and her physician.

As for Stem Cell research I’m all for it, every report I have read indicates great potential for curing many diseases and injuries and I disagree with the position held by many in the Republican Party regarding the use of surplus embryos.

  8. lulu Says:

I personally don’t support abortion. I do however realize it is a womans right to choose. I would much rather see an 8 celled stem cell used to possibly cure very debilitating diseases, than see a baby aborted as a method of birth control. There should definitely be regulation on it.

  9. aaronelguapocr Says:

I do not support embryonic stem cell research, and I am against abortion. Both of these processes result in the termination of a human life. They are just other forms of murder.

  10. mixedmegababe Says:

OK…stem cell reasearch I dont know much on, but what i do know I dont agree with.

However abortion I am a huge advacate for. I believe whatever anyones believes the final choice is up to the woman. All these bible thumpers out here saying its murder just put it up for adaption if you dont want it, seriously need to take a walk thru a foster care or group home. Or how about the childrens ward of a hospital and see how many kids are beat raped and abused by their adopted or foster parents. People that the state pays to watch over these kids. But are really just paid just beat or rape a child till there finally taken away and put back in a group home just to be kicked out at 18 with very minimul support after that. My husband who is know 26 was in foster care since the birth. Let me give u a little back round on him. He was molested by 5 foster families! He was kept in the basement for almost a year at one foster family until he was finally removed by the state. he was locked in a backyard for days sometimes weeks at a time in the backward of 1 of the familys and forced to drink from the dogs water bowl and eat raw pasta, grass or leaves off the tree. this is just his story. I work for the county and work with at risk youth that have been in foster care since birth. So these people that are against abortion need to go to these kids look in their eyes and see how lost they are. And know the only answer is NOT adoption.
