I used to take elavil for 3 years (20mg), it can reduce bp, it can cause heart palpatations (I am guessing if elavil slows the heart rate to slow at night the body releases adrenalin to stimulate the heart that is why you can get those palpatitions or find yourself a little nervous,if a person takes enough of the elavil (which is amitriptlylin) it can stop the heart or cause heart failure. some people have used elavil in this way to commit suicide.
I stopped taking it because it made me sleepy during the day and reduced my capacity to work, tho I did sleep very well at night (which I had a problem with due to frequent urinations, nervousness and pain)
so now I still have sleeping problems, my bp is treated so I am not as nervous as I used to be, my insides feel calmer, I still have frequent awakenings at night.
now as for a heart disorder you would have to be more specific what you mean. there are many kinds which do you refer to?
