Her surgeon now says that the hernia is back again and needs another operation! She consulted another surgeon at Northwestern University Hospital who says he does not see a hernia and that the pain could be caused by scar tissue or the mesh from previous operations. He talked about a pain management clinic. Who do you believe and what do you do?

I have the same problems. DId she have a prolift mesh put in and had to get it removed due to health problems associated with its use?

The pain is most likely caused by scar tissue and she needs the areas massaged. I think you should massage the area for her, so that blood can move around. Hence, less scar tissue build up. ANd, complete valididation of her pain.

Mine is to the right of my leg joint, so whenever I do any heavy walking or anything physical like that, it throbs like the biggest pain I have ever felt!

I have never heard of a pain management clinic, but I have heard of having a PT (physical therapist) work with the patient perform certain exercises. At least that is what my DR. has prescribed. I think another surgery would only complicate things more. At least wait it out more….then, maybe surgery is your only option. But, the more surgeries, the more scar tissue. It’s a “you’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t…” type situation.

Email me if you have any further questions.

It is true that the hernias can reoccur especially because surgery do not really solve the cause of any problem. I would however be more inclined to believe the second doctor. Simply because he does not have anything to gain by saying there is none. To be on the safe side however, she could consult a third doctor to hear what his diagnosis is. In any case though increasing her consumption of fresh raw vegetables, fresh raw fruits, nut and seeds will help to reduce the pressure on that weak area. It would require that she also drink a lot of pure water – 8 to 10 glasses per day. This would create a freer bowel and thus reduce the pain.

Since you did not state what kind or where the hernia is. I am assuming it is an anal hernia, or one somewhere along the digestive system.
