My 3 year old has been diagnosed with Mouth Foot and Hand Disease?
Category: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
and she has been sleepwalking for the first time tonight. There have been four episodes so far in the 3 hours she’s been asleep. She goes straight for the front door and is crying, but obviously asleep. Does anyone know if this is just another symptom? I googled it and found nothing.
thanks Mr. Helpful, I keep getting the wording of it confused. I’d never heard of it before today.

it is actually hand foot mouth disease. This is not another symptom by the way. I slept-walk once in perfect health. How did i know i slept-walk?
My parents saw me. Walking around with my eyes closed. Luckily i did not crash into anything as they carried me back to bed.

I’ve known several children that have had Hand-Foot-and-Mouth disease. But never heard of sleep-walking as a possible symptom.
Simply an educated guess… hand-foot-and-mouth is supposedly pretty painful. Perhaps it’s possible that this pain in manifesting itself in the sleep walking. Basically, the pain wakes her up, but she’s so tired, she really stays asleep, but the pain makes her get up and walk around anyway.
Beyond that, I don’t know much about sleep-walking (beyond knowing a few friends that have an individual in their family that occationally sleep walks, usually it’s something very specific, such as raiding the fridge in their sleep.

Is she running a temp? That can cause sleepwalking and weird sleep behavior.

I’ve no experience with Foot Mouth and Hand disease, but I do have a sleepwalking six-year old, and can help you out with that.
If it persists, you might need baby gates or, at the very least, locks on your doors that are out of the child’s reach.
Try not to startle her when you find her; just gently re-direct her back to her bed. She may seem sleepy and even drunk- I have found my child swaying, slurring his speech, and urinating in the bathtub. It’s kind of spooky, but nothing to worry about. It just means they are disoriented.
Sleepwalking can happen when a child is fighting illness, or overtired, among other reasons. The best thing we’ve found to prevent reoccurrences is a consistent bedtime routine and schedule.
Hope it passes soon, and best of luck.

its hand foot and mouth my daughter had this earlier this year the only thing she had was high temp and a rash on her hands and feet and ulcers in her mouth
i think the sleep walking is something different but no uncommon try talking to ur doc about the it but i don’t think there’s any thing they would b able to do about it
as for the hand foot and mouth i was told 2 give my daughter yogurt to cool her mouth down and give her soft stuff to eat it went after about a week but u need to keep her in isolation for 10 days as its like chicken pox everyone she comes into contact with will get them and adults have a milder reaction to it

I had a look at the NHS website – it lists various symptoms including some complications which do list unusual behaviour – I’d get her back to the doctors pronto.

She’s probably running a bit of a temperature and not sleeping well. I’d give her some kids painkiller and just reassure her – it’s a mild illness, she’ll be fine in a few days.
