is prozac helpful for anxiety and panic attack disorders?
Category: Panic Disorders

I was diagnosed with this problem and my psychiatrist prescribed prozac but from research ive done it seems to be directed more to depression. I understand everyone is different and it may not work for me but has anyone ever taken this for anxiety even? and panic attacks!

Generally anxiety and depression medication go hand and hand. Lexapro serves the same function. They are both SSRI’s (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). So they change the chemistry in your brain, overall changing you outlook on life. I take Lexapro for anxiety and it made me turn a 180. Nearly nothing bothers me or stresses me out anymore!

Drugs effective against depression can also be very effective against anxiety and panic attack disorders. After you’ve been on Prozac for about 4 weeks, your overall general mental attitude will improve considerably, and with it your tendency to be anxious and/or have panic attacks.

Your doctor knows what he is doing – the drugs will stop the panic attacks. BUT – that will usually cause more harm than good. I know this because I’m a former panic attacks and anxiety sufferer, who took medication(not prozac, but many others) for them. They did stop my panic attacks immediately, but in the long run made a lot more harm than good. Learn to deal with the problem without the use of medication(see panicattacks.simplestcures.com). Medication is a quick and easy ‘blanket’ over your problem, but the problem still stays there, it’s just ‘hidden’. Hope that was helpful
Good luck!
