The name of the organism is Helicobacter pylori and it is the causitive agent of over 90% of peptic ulcers. It is probably one of the most commonly found diseases in the world and is communicable. It is also difficult to treat and usually requires a cocktail of 2-3 antibiotics plus a bismuth compound.

  2. 88 Jayhawk Says:

The bacteria that causes ulcers is H. Pylori. It is best treated by tetracycline (an antibiotic) and bismuth (found in pepto-bismol). Peptic ulcers and cancer are two totally different things. Veterinarians discovered this bacteria in pigs 50 years before M.D.’s discovered it in humans.
