How much do you know about stem cell research?

Hi i am a 10th grade student and I am doing a project to see how many of you really know what stem cell research is. I will be asking a few questions and i want to tell me what you know no doing any research or anything. This will be very helpful for me. Later tonight i will be postnig the answers to come back and see how you did. Thanks.
A. What are human embryonic stem cells?
B. From where do human embryonic stem cells originate?
C. What is the difference between a blastocyst and a fetus?
D. Where in the body is the blastocyst located?
E. Do you know of other sources for stem cells? Elaborate
F. What are advantages to using adult stem cells?
G. What are the advantages to using adult stem cells?
H. What are the disadvantages to using embryonic stem cells?
I. What are the disadvantages to using adult stem cells?
J. What are their possible uses in medicine?
K. Do you feel that federal funding should be allocated toward human embryonic stem cell research? Why or Why not?

“I am doing a project to see how many of you really know what stem cell research is.”
Yeah, okay. We aren’t idiots. We know what you are doing. People do other people’s homework all the time on here. You don’t have to lie.

forgive my ignorance, but you wanted answers without research, so here are mine:
A. What are human embryonic stem cells?
They are the cells that can turn into other types of cells because they have not had a determination on what type of cells they are going to be.
B. From where do human embryonic stem cells originate? I am not sure, but I belive they can be found in the developing fetus as well as the in the umbilical cord.
C. What is the difference between a blastocyst and a fetus?
The level of development. The blastocyst is in the early stage, and the fetus is after the baby starts to develop some form (e.g. you start to see hands, fingers, etc.)
D. Where in the body is the blastocyst located?
In the Uterus
E. Do you know of other sources for stem cells? Elaborate
No, I am not aware of them.
F. What are advantages to using adult stem cells?
G. What are the advantages to using adult stem cells?
H. What are the disadvantages to using embryonic stem cells?
There is currently an uprising over the use of embryonic stem cells as some religious leaders believe that people will create fetuses just to kill them and use them for research, or will be more likely to kill their pre-babies to assist with research.
I. What are the disadvantages to using adult stem cells?
I am going to assume that they are not as “pliable” or easily manipulated for their intended use.
J. What are their possible uses in medicine?
Because they are flexible, they can be developed and nurtured to replace cells that are damaged, such as in back injuries, neck injuries, and diseases.
K. Do you feel that federal funding should be allocated toward human embryonic stem cell research? Why or Why not?
Yes, I believe that this research can be very beneficial and eventually reduce treatment costs for some injuries/illnesses. However, I beleive that the MAJORITY of funding for ALL medical research should come from donations and the “sale” of the results of the research.
Great Questions!!
