How common is it for someone to be diagnosed with both Bipolar disorder and PTSD?
Category: Bipolar Disorder

I had to get evaluated by a psychiatrist and therapist today for disability. I’d originally applied due to my bipolar disorder. Today after a long day the Psychiatrist spoke to me and told me he believes my bipolar diagnoses is right, but that he believes I also have Post traumatic stress disorder. I didn’t know you could have both. Is this common in people with bipolar? I already see a psychiatrist and social worker for therapy and plan to inform them of this new diagnoses.

It would not be uncommon for people with backgrounds in these fields, to say that bi polar and trauma are connected, yes.
Some people go so far as to say that early childhood experiences can be the source of the imbalances that cause bi polar.
Others do not.
Remind yourself to ask your doctors to explain their thinking, when you see them , as well.
