How can I get better at starts for swim? And how can I get better at butterfly and breast strokes?
Category: Strokes
It’s my first time ever being on a swim team and I really don’t know how to dive that well and so my starts aren’t that good at all.. Also, I can kind of do a butterfly stroke but I get really tired really fast. And for breast stroke I kind of have the hand stroke but I do not have the kick at all. What’s are some ways to get better at those strokes and starts?I really need help!

Practice!!!!! Butterfly for me gets tiring too, but only practice can make you get better!
Starts- make sure to leap off the diving block as far as u can. Stretch ur arms out so they squish ur head. When u leap out, make sure u enter the water like a pencil, without ur legs flipping up, that slows ur speed.
Butterfly- if u dint have to breath every time u come out of the water, dont. Just keep ur face underwater. When ur underwater, don’t look forward. Look down. Powerful dolphin kicks r good.
Breast- stare DOWN when ur underwater, dint look forward! It slows u down A LOT. Learn ur kick, thats what gets u to go forward in the first place. When u close ur legs in the last step of the kick, make sure to do that fast. Stretch your arms out far to get more distance. Spend as much time under water than above.
Hope this helps!

Practice practice practice!!! Since Ive never seen you swim I can’t really tell you what you’re doing wrong, but read up on it and practice new techniques. The best thing for you though would be to see your coach!! I’m sure he or she would be happy to correct your stroke, or you could take a private swim lesson at your YMCA to work on your technique specifically. Good luck!!
