Gout Hater’s Cookbook II: The Low Purine Diet Cookbook

Category: Gout

Product Description
The perfect addition to the Gout Hater’s Collection, designed specifically for persons suffering from gout. This new book complies with the modified purine diet in its predecessor, Gout Hater’s Cookbook. It also meets the requirements of the restricted purine diet.

The recipes you will find in Book II feature a more detailed, albeit restriced, food list, for a delicious ovo-lacto- (eggs and milk allowed) vegetarian diet.

Gout Hater’s Cookbook II was put together in an effort to demonstrate just how delectably well you can eat, even on a restricted purine diet, while continually helping to lower your uric acid levels.

Over 100 recipes, 112 pages, features comprehensive food lists of foods allowed and not allowed. Sections include Questions and Answers, Helpful Hints, Breakfast, Appetizers, Beverages, Main Dishes, Sides, Sauces, Desserts, Metric Conversion Chart and a lengthy bibliography.

It is so hard to find information on gout. This book is well-researched, offers lots of information and the recipes are delicious and easy to fix. The bibliography alone is worth the price.

As someone recently diagnosed with gout, I am amazed by how much contradictory information there is out there about this disease and how to eat properly to manage its symptoms.

Some doctors and books (this one included) advise to cut out vegetables like lentils, spinach, artichokes, avocados and legumes because they contain high amounts of purines. But an important Harvard study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that purines in vegetables do NOT contribute to gout.

Many self-proclaimed gout experts don’t seem to be aware of this groundbreaking study. They tell gout sufferers to cut out high purine vegetables under the assumption that any food containing high purine levels MUST by definition be bad for gout. But it seems that vegetable purines may have less effect on uric acid levels than, say, meat and yeast purines.

Obviously, this is crucial information for gout sufferers. It could mean that a whole world of vegetables, eaten in moderation, might not be bad for you after all. The authors of this book seem to be in the dark about this. I recommend that everyone suffering from gout do all the research they can and get a variety of opinions before cutting out foods that may have health benefits.

Received Gout Hater’s Cookbook I as a gift and my wife has used the recipes and important tips for the last year. Information is provided in a concise easy to use style. We just added Gout Hater’s Cookbook II and III to our kitchen reference library and we now have three times as many great recipes to use. We can’t wait for Cookbook IV and hope that it includes a master index of the recipes from all versions. Thanks for making this information available to us.
