Does a hammer toe op hurt?

I have a hammer toe on one of my feet and doctors have decided to do surgery. They are going to cut the tendon out of the top of the toe and stretch it over the bone so the toe goes flat. Has anyone had this done, does it hurt? And what do you have to wear after (eg operation shoe, crutches etc?)

There will be some pain after the surgery. tay off of your foot, as much as possible, for the first 48 hours. In some cases, your doctor may send you home with a special orthopedic “shoe.” Wear this shoe according to doctor’s order. Check here.
