Product Description
Tics are a fact of life for kids with Tourette Syndrome (TS) and related disorders. And for most kids, the symptoms of their disorder aren’t even the most frustrating part–others’ reactions can make children feel anxious and extremely self-conscious.

Coping with Tourette Syndrome includes forty activities to help kids with TS, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) understand, prepare for, and mask their tics. Kids will also learn how to best explain their tics to friends and curious strangers using humor, games, or brief scripts they have prepared.

The activities in this workbook address managing TS and related disorders in specific situations, such as at school, at the movies, when out to dinner, on special occasions, when visiting friends for sleepovers or parties, when taking tests, and in places of worship. After completing these exercises, kids with TS will have all the tools they need to handle their tics with confidence and grace in any situation.

  1. Jonna Webster Says:

I work in a school district and have used this book extensively. I have made copies and done many of the activities with children. It is amazing how it helps a student to be able deal with what is going on within them selves and how they interact with others in the world. It was a huge self-esteem booster for the student to know what to say &/or do when tics occur. Adults who are unfamiliar with the disorder have told me that the child can control it when he/she wants to. This book helped raise awareness in others such as teachers and school staff who really did not understand. The `phases of the moon’ was a tremendous help here because it gave a common language for the child, the teachers, and the parents. For example, if a child told his teacher that he was in a full moon everyone would know what that meant and how much help that child needed for that day. This book helped the child improve peer relationships by knowing and practicing what to say when tics occur. Other children were more accepting when they understood. I regularly recommend this book to parents whose child has been diagnosed Tourette Syndrome. It helps the whole family learn how to deal with it. And now teachers have started asking to buy a copy of it for their teams.
