The person for whom I purchased this book shortly after they were diagnosed with bladder cancer said it was extremely helpful. They would definitely recommend it. One of the reasons they liked the book was that it anticipated the questions they were asking themselves and it alerted them as to what questions they should ask their doctor. There is not a lot of literature around for this form of cancer.

Another reason they liked the book was that it explained how they would feel, what the treatment was like, what the treatment options were, and it didn’t beat around the bush on what to expect in the years to come. It prepared them for the worst while emphasizing what there was to be optimistic and hopeful about. The book made them aware there are support groups, and also offered suggestions on how to discuss it with familly and friends and the variety of reactions one is likely to encounter.

Bladder Cancer: A Resource Guide for Patients and Their Families gave me detailed information, but not much more than can already be found online.

I did not find answers to what I was really looking for, one of which was side effects of chemotherapy and how long average recovery times are after surgery (which may vary too much from person to person & depending on other circumstances).

The book itself was not in the condition I had expected, but was fine for what I needed.

I wish I’d read this earlier instead of waiting until after surgery as I like to be informed. Doctors time is precious, and this book is good for a quick reference to answer questions you may not have thought of asking at appointments. It is short but concise, written in plain language, and not highly technical. You may read just the sections which are relevant to your case.
