Birth control pill linked to Pityriasis Rosea???
Last summer, I started on the generic birth-control pill, “Tri-Previfem”, (the name brand pill is known as “Ortho Tri-Cyclen”) and 3 months later broke out in itchy, dry, pink rashes. It started on my collar bone & spread ALL over my stomach, a few on my upper thighs, my back, & upper arms. I went to the dermatologist and told me I had Pityriasis Rosea (a common skin disease that appears ONCE & no one knows how one gets it, & lasts about 3 months: http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/pityriasis_rosea.html

I posted this on a forum (askapatient.com) on the topic of Ortho Tri-Cyclen, and more than 4 women have contacted me saying they had the same reaction!!!! Although they never confirmed they were diagnosed w/ Pityriasis Rosea, they broke out in a rash that sounded exactly like mine.a VERY WEIRD COINCIDENCE??
If there is ANYONE who has experienced this?? Do you think there is a possible linkage????
Yes, I read the entire pamphlet that came with my pills – all side effects, and nothing like that mentioned.
The doctor didn’t even THINK to LINK the pill to my skin disease. And if this has happened to me and several others who were on the SAME type of pill, I think there is something to look more into!
I don’t believe it’s going to happen to me again, and this is the only pill that is helping me control acne so I don’t plan on getting off of it. I got off the generic pill and got on the real one and still no rashes…so I don’t think it’s going to happen again. I’m not really concerned about the skin disease itself….more about the linkage between the two.

Interesting. I had that last summer. I have no idea where it came from and did not think to link it to my birth control pills. All I can say about it is that being out in the sun keeps it from getting really bad. I had it consistently for 3 months and then for another 3 months a rash would pop up here or there. I’ll look into your theory.

well did you read the insert that came with you pills about side effects ? It is possibly listed . Tou can also go to thedrug manufacturersweb site and look it up . One thing you can also do is ask your Dr. to switch you to something different .
