No – it’s an irreversible damage to the lungs – nothing will improve it.

The single most important thing you can do to stop it worsening is to stop smoking

See a professional Homeopath. It’s the only thing that can work to cure it or alleviate the symptoms significantly. Since this is a chronic issue it’s not a doityourself deal.

No. Firstly, you need to understand that there is no such thing as alternative “medicine” -period. There’s stuff that works (medicine), and stuff that hasn’t been shown to work- alt.med. Homeopathy has been shown time and time again not to work. Most sane people accept this and move on, however, there are still some, like Nosey above, who continue to cling to the “belief” that it works, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Why do they peddle in such nonsense? Alt.med offers them simplicity. They are unable to deal with the complexity of science and medicine.

Basically, you have damage to the alveoli of the lungs. How old are you and how long have you had COPD? It goes without saying, that if you smoke, you must stop. The damage that exists in your lungs cannot be reversed, it’s important you understand this. If the quacks tell you otherwise, they are lying. However, just because you cannot undo the existing damage to your lungs, it does not mean you can cannot prevent further damage.

Treatments aim to ease symptoms; and it can be divided into three different categories: Treatments to stable the condition, management for exacerbation’s and treatments for end-stage COPD.

Albuterol is an short acting bronchodilator, which relaxes the muscles in the airways, helping them to dilate. If your current management is not very effective, you need to return to your Doctor so he can reassess your situation. There are other medicines used in the management of COPD.

The quacks on here have no medical training. AVOID.

Excercise, eat healthy, drink plenty of water.

Alternative medicine preys on those with incurable diseases by offering fake treatments (such as homeopathy) to exploit the desperate.

Don’t be a victim, consult a doctor not a scammer.

I’ve been having excellent results with nebulized glutathione. Talk with your respiratory therapist about it, or consider consulting with a naturopathic doc near you.

It’s not for everyone – if you have a shellfish allergy (or a history of asthma, which tends to correspond with a sulphite sensitivity) then you’re at risk of allergic reaction to the glutathione. I always have patients do their first treatment in my office to monitor for adverse reactions. Thereafter, patients do the therapy at home.

It’s well supported by the science, AND patients report subjective improvements as well. Their cough becomes more productive and less severe, and they feel like they’re able to take a deep breath and/or no longer feel like they’re struggling to get a good breath. On follow-up spirometry tests after glutathione treatment, patients show objective improvement as well which suggests it may be possible to reverse some of the damage.

Also, while emphysema is actual damage to the lung tissue, there’s an inflammatory component to both disease progression and to the symptoms experienced as well. Addressing inflammation also helps patients feel a lot better. This is best accomplished through a multi-pronged protocol – diet and lifestyle changes plus supplements to amend the inflammatory response.

Of course, as others have mentioned, stopping smoking is kind of a “no brainer.” If you’re a smoker and you’re having trouble quitting, cutting down as much as possible does help. And stopping smoking is often a “process.” Not everyone can go “cold turkey.” If you need help to quit, ask for it. :)

    No, there are not.

  8. Kamina Squirtle Says:

First off, Emphysema is not completely curable since it is a degenerative disease that damages the lungs with time. Therefore any “cure” for Emphysema will be semi-permanent at best.

However, a treatment with long-lasting results and minimum subsequent maintenance treatment is one involving three herbal supplements: Soup A, Soup B, and LC Balancer. Soup A and Soup B both regenerate lung tissue by providing and funneling essential nutrients to the lungs. Their only difference is that Soup B is used in more dire cases of Emphysema, e.g., people over the age of 65 or on supplemental oxygen. LC Balancer facilitates the process by increasing overall micro circulation thus accelerating the speed at which nutrients travels to the lungs.

This treatment should eliminate symptoms people under 50 in 2-4 weeks. People age 50-65 who are not on supplemental oxygen should be symptom free in 1-2 months of treatment.

People over 65 years old and/or on supplemental oxygen would need 3-4 months of treatment to become symptom free. Within 2 weeks of treatment, patients should have reduced shortness-of-breathe, coughing with phlegm, and an improved energy level. With 1 month of treatment, patients should have reduced oxygen dependence. With 2 months of treatment, patients should have 50% symptom improvement . A continued 3 to 4 months of treatment is required to achieve reversal of the lung degeneration.
