There are times when a left and right views of complimentary body parts are helpful in evaluating certain conditions.
Since a foreign body is not likely to be mistaken for a normal variation in the ear or nose, it probably would not be necessary to X-ray both left and right sides.
I am an RN. I have worked ER and a lot of peds.

Generally when looking for a foreign body in any part of the body we do two views of the body part, what we refer to 90/90 views. So you would need a image from the front or back and a image from the side doesn’t really matter which one. The 90 degree views allow the doctor to see were the object is front from back and left to right. If I personally was doing your images I would put the side of the suspected problem closest to the receiver (film, but we don’t really use film much anymore
all digital). There is a reason for that but it would make only a minor difference in the magnification of the object. For a skull we may also do a image up through your chin to get a third direction.
