Okay this is a very vague topic.

So some basic facts:

Tourette syndrome is a type of neurological disorder caused by a chemical imbalance in a person’s brain resulting in tics. So, in other words, it’s a type of brain disorder (not mental) caused because the person is born with too many chemicals in their brain (so it’s not contagious, it’s something their born with) which send false messages to a person’s body making them do movements and make sounds that they have no control over (this is called a tic)… well not ‘no’ control. It’s not involuntary but a person can’t hold back a tic any better than you could hold back a cough or not scratch an itch. So a tic is a quick, rapid, non rhythmic, repetitive movement or sound a person makes that they can’t control any better than a cough or a sneeze.

So Tourette syndrome:

-is not a mental disorder (it’s neurological)

-is not contagious (caused because a person was born with a chemical imbalance in their brain… but it usually doesn’t sure itself until the person is about seven years old)

-is not involuntary (think of yourself holding back a cough or not scratching an itch, eventually you’re going to have to do it)

-is not a cursing disease (one, it’s not a disease. And two, only 5-10% of all people with tourettes curse because of it. What if they never heard a curse word? people can only repeat what they hear, it’s not like people with tourettes were born with a built in dictionary in their brain)

-has no effect on intelligence (actually, studies show people with tourettes are smarter than the ‘normal’ kid)

-has no effect on personality (it doesn’t change what kind of person you are)

-has no effect on how long you live (although it last their whole lives)
